JEE Main Cut off Trend Analysis
If one takes a closer look at the JEE Main qualifying marks over the last few years, one can see a particular trend. It is that the qualifying cutoff is coming down every year. Take for instance, the qualifying JEE Main 2019 cutoff for open category in 2013 was 113, which nosedived to 74 in 2018. This trend can be seen across all categories.
Some of the explanation for this trend could be:
The entrance exam is getting tougher
More number of candidates are included in the qualifying list. It is true for JEE Main 2018, when the number of qualifying candidates was increased from 2,24,000 to 2,31,025.
Candidates are not performing as well as did previously. A key trend in recent years have been the dominance of coaching candidates in the toppers list. So, a moot question could be is the exam tilted against candidates who don’t take or can’t afford coaching.
